Okay so we had a bit of fun today talking with Michael Libbie of Insight Advertising and Communications about methods of payment for online transactions while wrapping up our video work.  We chatted about a company that still doesn’t take credit cards.  “What does this company take Michael?” My first thoughts were of primitive cultures and merchants bartering with salted meats, pelts, and booze.  After a good laugh, we actually hit on something very powerful that’s happening in the business world and it’s the fact that:

The economy is forcing even old school industries who aren’t ready for innovation (like credit cards…OR affordable and rapidly deployed web video and multimedia) to adopt and try it out.

The consummate pro marketeer, Libbie provided us with a full video treatment, story board, images, music ideas, etc. to work with and Media Maestro Paul Gratton constructed a prototype before Michael even walked in the door for his green screen (or chroma key) video shoot.

Bottom line and net result: Phone call to go live subtracting out time to get things scheduled…less than a day. I’ll let Michael talk about/show the final product when it hits YouTube et al…but I’m comfortable in saying that this was a great experience, we produced a great product, and that the customer will be very pleased.  (Now let’s just do this 30 times more during 2009 and really build some traffic and visibility eh?) Efficient and affordable web video is reality.

Are you avoiding the use of web video?

If you are avoiding the use of web video to tell your story, promote your business, or communicate with your target market…you may want to reconsider.  Comscore has put out a report (thanks Tech Crunch) that states the following:

Video search on YouTube accounts for a quarter of all Google search queries in the U.S., according to the latest search engine numbers from comScore.

‘Nuf said?  Do you see how being findable on many fronts is key to an effective web strategy?  Video is power.  Either do it yourself or engage professionals like us for heavy lifting…but DO IT.  Tell/show/live your story.

Why create WOW media is growing when the economy is contracting

create WOW media is sought out by more and more companies these days.  Why?

  1. We offer a “Increased Internet Findability“  not “a new website”
  2. We offer high value to clients by explaining to them how they can pay us less and become independent of us.
  3. We offer a products that have a high visual impact (WOW factor) and moderate investment.
  4. We offer products that have a highly trackable ROI.  “I got 10 new clients because of product A and service B.”
  5. When choosing where to spend money on marketing/promotion these days, the web is viewed as a cost-effective and measurable medium by small/medium sized companies.
  6. Just about everyone agrees that 98 of 100 people surveyed say they search Google first when looking for a product or service vs. phone book, etc.
  7. We demystify search engine optimization which to normal people means “showing up when someone searches for their company’s category/city”.

Audio and Video of Doug Mitchell’s “Increasing Your Internet Findability Factor” Session

I was honored to speak in front of the New Iowa Entrepreneurs Meetup group last Wednesday evening.  The group had some great questions and was totally engaged.  The small room format lent itself to an intimate setting where I could connect with everyone close up.

Below I’ve posted the audio file of the discussion (with most of the QA) and the video of the entire session.  The video is broken into smaller chunks for easier digestion.  Sorry for the “back to the camera” angle.  I was in the center of the room managing my slides and was engrossed in the moment!

Thank you National Pork Board

Thank you to the National Pork Board for asking me to speak today.

It was a pleasure to share some of the things we’ve learned through our web video journey.  There’s always a balance between production quality and cost.  It’s createWOW’s opinion that many small and medium firms are better served by the “Guerrilla Video” approach of putting out MORE, BETTER, FASTER on their own vs. leveraging the “Pro Studio” folks all the time.

We still stick by the winning formula of “You create…..we produce” model as well.  It doesn’t take much training (our courses are available soon) to create good quality video with lighting and a decent lapel or or boom/shotgun mic.  However doing good edits and post-production usually involve a bit more software, time, and expertise that SMB’s don’t have.  How about uploading that raw video to your trusted editing partner?  Let them crank out a blockbuster and either deliver it right back or blast it to 20 websites for you.   Your call.

Of course we’re SUPER excited when a company “graduates” and can produce all of their own material but sometimes…it’s just more efficient to leverage someone outside.
