Eckhart Tolle TV – Subscription Site Marketing Done Right

April 15, 2010 by Doug Mitchell · Leave a Comment

If you examine the business practices of superstar book writer Eckhart Tolle, you’ll find keen Internet Marketing acumen under the surface.  You see Tolle offers a website of his teachings, lectures, and live streams, i.e. “content” called EckhartTolleTV.com.  Most people will probably gloss over this quote about Tolle’s membership website from USA Today…but as a smart Internet Marketer, you would light up inside at its brilliance: (emphasis mine)

Subscriptions to Tolle TV, at $14.95 to $19.95 a month, cost less than a movie and popcorn, and a growing amount of the content — his lectures, teachings and meditations — is free.

Most of the proceeds of his books and teaching tours are plowed back into Tolle TV’s elaborate professional productions, or the overhead for lecture halls. This enables him to reach an ever-widening audience without forcing solitude-loving Tolle to travel constantly, says Anthony McLaughlin, CEO of Eckhart Teachings and co-founder of Tolle TV.

BINGO!  Absorb the bold text.  YOU can travel less and do MORE by leveraging the power of your online brand and deliver what MORE people want…yes MORE people want you so give to them…and you can do it with less travel, less pain, less hassle, and for higher profit margins.  Tollle is famous now and Oprah rocketed him to stardom when, “she invited him to co-host a 10-week set of Internet seminars on how to simply be.” (By the way, 25 million people watched those webinars.) However, you can follow Tolle’s model to the T.  Ready…

  1. Passionately produce compelling content (books, blogs, essays) and publish to a WordPress based optimized website. (Join LunchtimeMastermind.com if you don’t know what this means)
  2. Build and support a community around that content. (forums, groups, blog comments, Facebook, Twitter)
  3. Capture names, email addresses, and as much information you can on your audience by offering them massive value.
  4. Speak publicly as much as possible. (Early on don’t be picky.  SPEAK and you will refine your message and your work through live QA/feedback)
  5. (Maybe you have an Oprah moment maybe you don’t but keep going here)
  6. Capture as much of the live content (seminars, webcasts, webinars, QA sessions, appearances) as possible.  Worry less about elaborate editing and production than simple basics like lighting and audio quality.
  7. Now, when you’ve got a huge library of material and large audience, it’s time to turn your WordPress site into a membership site. (again, LunchtimeMastermind.com)
  8. Once you’ve powered up the membership engine, keep producing content, keep giving it away, but now segment the content to deliver additional value (insider information, more depth, more access, more exclusivity, etc.) to the paying membership for $xx.xx per month.

It’s unacceptable and incorrect to say, “But I’m too busy being a good writer, speaker, and consultant to produce all this content you talk about Doug”…because you’re doing it already…you just don’t know it.

Get your foundation under you with a WordPress based optimized site and then capture, capture, capture.  If that’s all you do for a couple years you’re in the top 5% and you can learn the rest.

Inaugural episode of new weekly podcast – “Managing the Edge” is now live

January 12, 2009 by Doug Mitchell · 1 Comment

I’m blessed to have an amazing sphere of friends and talent orbiting the create WOW media mothership. One such uber dude is Andy Brudtkuhl (that’s BROOD-COOL). You won’t hear him correct me on that during the podcast…due to the magic of editing software!  Look at how that name is spelled for goodness sake.  Huh???

Andy runs 48Web, a Web Strategy consultancy in town. Among the zillions of things Andy does, one is to lay out excellent-tangible-actionable web strategy plans.  Andy’s services are very complimentary to createWOWmedia’s and we often collaborate heavily on projects.

createWOWmedia focuses on deploying infrastructure, coaching the reasons why we need to organically grow our findability, and amplifying online brands through rich multimedia (walk on video + green screen video + podcasts + custom music).  While 48Web lays out what we need to do each week to be successful, what technologies need to be deployed, and how much time we can expect to devote to each per week. (SEO + analytics + budgeting + hosting) etc.

Bottom line, this Podcast called Managing the Edge will be a weekly MEGA value informational powerhouse for the premium price of ZERO bucks.

I’d recommend subscribing to the Managing the Edge Podcast Feed so you’re in the know.  As always, your comments, feedback, suggestions, and mojo are welcome.  I’ve embedded the podcast below but please, subscribe to the Podcast feed to ensure delivery every time.

Thanks for listening.

Welcome Adam Steen and 25Connections to the createWOWmedia family

September 23, 2008 by Doug Mitchell · Leave a Comment

Adam is the most connected person I know.  It made perfect sense when Adam named his company “25Connections“.  I had no clue what the 25 meant and thought, “Maybe that was the only URL available?”  Wrong.

Adam tells you exactly why he named the company 25Connections in his company intro video that we’ve just finished.

Adam is a natural connector of resources, both seen and unseen, with the goal of creating commerce.  He does it well too.

Take a look-see at our use of imagery, music, and few other goodies to convey Adam’s message with excellence.

Scripting a Multimedia Video Production for a Small Business

August 28, 2008 by paulgratton · Leave a Comment

Background

This week I’m working on a script for Nutri-Sport -Full Potential Training, a great personal training studio/nutrition/supplement store just off of Swanson and 100th Street in Clive, Iowa.

When I first chatted with Ryan Irwin, natural bodybuilder and owner of FPT, I was impressed by his perspective and real desire to help people look and feel their best.

The challenge

The only challenge with Ryan’s business is that not enough people know about the high level of quality, passion, and expertise Ryan has.  It’s hard to stand out in a crowd, even when you’re packed with muscle and able to bench press 300 pounds…weighing in at a crisp 165lbs!

Our approach

That’s why I listened very carefully to Ryan as he described his business and goals. I picked out key words that kept coming up as Ryan talked about what excited him about his local, independent business.

In the script I chose to “amplify” the most vivid, descriptive, and appealing themes Ryan used to describe his own business. He used words like “full potential,” “achieve more,” “personalized nutrition,” and “accountability.”

The results

When you see the finished video in a few weeks (we’ll post it right here on the createWOWmedia blog) you’ll find these word and ideas reinforced by the visuals and text added. Watch as we emphasize Ryan’s core strengths, making his genuine and winning personality shine through.

It makes us happy. We think it’ll make Ryan happy…and more successful.

Call to action

If you appreciate our approach to amplifying a small business’s brand, maybe we’re a good fit for your firm?

Rise of the “Everyperson” Voice over in Media

August 21, 2008 by Doug Mitchell · Leave a Comment

Thanks Business Pundit for pointing to this piece in Politico about the changing face of voice overs in political ads.  John McCain is using a “normal voiced” woman vs. the typical “Voice of God” type (think movie trailer guy Don LaFontaine or the guy who seems to do every one of those CSI type ‘who killed who’ shows.)

For much of our multimedia production, we leverage…well…me.  I’m that fairly non-descript and somewhat nasally at times guy that sounds like a normal person.  I guess I can take, “You don’t have that professional sounding voice Doug..it’s more ‘every guy’” comment as a compliment.

When I get my announcer guy voice on I can fake it.  But let’s face it, most of what we all need are corporate pieces that show how real we are.  Real people, real voice, real credibility.

If you really do need a pro to step in, consider www.voice123.com They offer myriad choices, prices, and styles.  From all reports I’ve gathered, it’s a snap to deal with the participating voice talent, etc.

Take a listen and see if I have a shot at taking any of LaFontaine’s business.

A test multimedia project for your small to medium business (SMB)

August 19, 2008 by Doug Mitchell · Leave a Comment

Here’s a quick idea that can give you a sense for what multimedia can do for your firm.

  1. Choose a short 30-60 second script to read. We suggest your company’s mission statement or guiding principles.
  2. Practice reading it with passion and proper emphasis.
  3. Find images that support your words using google image search.  Just copy and paste those images into a PowerPoint presentation.
  4. Find some music on your computer or borrow some that support your reading and imagery.
  5. Now click play on the music, read the script, and click through the images one by one.

You’ll get a very rough cut idea of how it will feel when you put the pieces together.  If you get goosebumps…nice work.   If your results are less exciting, perhaps you can rework/revise/rethink and try again.

Total budget? ….about 1 hour of your time.

Convincing the CEO to wake up your marketing/promotion/presentations with multimedia…priceless.

We’ve had many great discussions on summarizing what it is that we provide for clients here at createWOWmedia.  We’ve come up with a decidedly simple phrase:
