Christian Music Explained
Christian music is music devoted and created by believers in the Christian faith. The most common types that you may have heard yourself are known as gospel music and Christian soft rock. And although there is some Christian music which is performed as hard rock or heavy metal, this style is considered a lot less common or popular. No matter what the kind of music that is used for the background theme, Christian songs will all have lyrics based around the faith.
Gospel
What is known as “Gospel music” is known to typically apply to traditional Christian songs, and are usually sung in church choirs or gospel groups. Most gospel groups will consist of four Christian members who sing the songs in a four-part harmony, and are often alluded to as quartets. In practically all cases, men are given the responsibility of the vocals for bass and tenor, while women also sing the alto and soprano harmonies. Bass makes up the lowest harmony, accompanied next by tenor and alto, with the highest vocal belonging to that of the soprano. In a number of cases, these kinds of groups perform in five-part harmony, which includes an additional soprano vocal that is referred to as a second soprano. This type is commonly found in nearly every Christian music CD store, and is clearly recognised as music of the faith.
Soft Rock
This music is somewhat similar to mainstream soft rock, other than that the lyrics usually involve verses relating to the Christian faith and worship and nothing degenerate. (You may also hear this style of music mentioned as Christian “lite” rock). Christian soft rock was considered non-traditional, but nowadays in most cases, it is widely accepted by those in the Christian faith communities. These soft rock bands will usually have members who sing vocals and play instruments such as guitars, drums, and piano, plus a bass guitar and even an occasional wind instrument.
Not so Popular – Hard Rock and Heavy Metal
Hard rock and heavy metal which are definitely traditionally not regarded as Christian music, are two other types of music now occasionally devoted to Christian entertainment. But, these genres are certainly less common, and many Christians would never accept them as being deemed appropriate musical brands for Christian worship. In every single way, Christian hard rock and heavy metal are no different to the same mainstream versions, with the exception of the song lyrics, which are dedicated to the Christian faith. This type of music is more popular among Christian teenagers and young adults, and Christians who consider these genres distasteful, believe that it promotes base emotions and rresponsible behaviour.

Christian music has a host of differing performance outlets and you will hear it played during church services, on the radio, and in concert halls, and is commonly sung and played as music themes for weddings, funerals, and other church type of events.
