create WOW media seeks recently fired Iowan ready to build his or her personal or new business brand
January 30, 2009 by Doug Mitchell · Leave a Comment
Today at 1130AM is the first installment in the Lunch and Learn series called “Now What: A 6 Part Entrepreneurial Survival Guide” presented by Lava Row and 48Web.
Now this series is like someone dumping about 24 units of entrepreneurship classes on you in 6 weeks (without the thousands of bucks leaving your wallet!) Imagine the value of the networking alone! (A a little birdie tells me there are gobs of well connected folks attending.) Rewind about 72 hours ago where I was chatting with Daniel Shipton and Adam Steen about the HUGE impact this series could have on lives around Des Moines with so much “Corporate Carnage” leaving people’s lives in its wake.
If you’re convinced already, click here to buy your ticket or FULL SEASON PASS here towards the bottom of the page (otherwise keep reading)
The plans evolved. So the create WOW media team has decided to do the following:
- We’ll fully sponsor attendance to the ENTIRE Now What Lunch and Learn series for one LUCKY recently fired or furloughed Iowan. (I know there’s one today that you may miss but we’ll give you the cliff notes). That’s a $150 value right there so you’re already UP! (See how getting fired has opened doors already?)
- create WOW media will do a “personal branding video” for you in the shiny new green screen studio at Impromptu Studio. You decide how you want to market your new business or yourself and WE will “dress you up and take you out!”
- I (Dougie) will do an audio interview with you in the studio where we’ll really dive into what you (or your newly formed company) brings to the table. Media Maestro Paul Gratton will wrap up this interview into a nice portable mp3 podcast nugget that you can use to clue the world into what you’re all about.
The rules of engagement:
- You do NOT have be actively starting a new business this instant to win. It took me quite a while before I pulled the trigger but you’re showing the thirst for entrepreneurial knowledge so that’s cool man.
- You MUST submit a video entry of no more than 60 seconds making your case. (Attach video file to an email you send to doug AT createWOWmedia DOT COM with the subject: NOW WHAT VIDEO SUBMISSION.
- You MUST submit your video by next Wednesday, February 4 at HIGH NOON.
- If you’ve already bought and paid for your FULL series admission you aren’t eligible…this time. If you have ONLY purchased a ticket for TODAY’s event, you are totally cool man so send your submission in.
All set? Questions can be directed to me at the email address I listed above. We can’t wait to see what you have to say. Submit away!
Here are the details of the Lunch and Learn series:

It’s been a pretty amazing week around the create WOW media studio at Impromptu Studio
January 30, 2009 by Doug Mitchell · Leave a Comment

Our team, fearlessly made to look superlative by Media Maestro Paul “I love live radio” Gratton, has transitioned from assisting in the recording/streaming of the podcast I do weekly with Andy Brudtkuhl of 48Web……to doing a live streaming show with up to 5 guests.
Did I mention that show is Macs World Live and it’s done DAILY from 2-4PM Central Time. Yes. Impromptu Studio where we’ve carved out our little piece of audio and video studio heaven is now teaming with additional life. It’s kind of like we chummed the water and a school of hungry entrepreneurs and innovators caught the scent and are now voraciously devouring the red meat.
Ready to expand Captain Dan?
We’re also working on a weekly Iowa based business show that will take “radio” to a level you’ve never seen. The show will stream live each week and will have new elements of follow up and extension that are going to have an measurable impact on businesses in the Des Moines metro. I can see this show concept being picked up in every market around the United States where entrepreneurs, online marketing and media folks, and business experts collide with a BIG BANG that drives success.

Pretty cool stuff guys. Let’s you embed advertising into your video in very strategic plays and in unique ways. I’ve seen stuff like this before but it wasn’t very “commercial”. Looks like they’re doing this very well.

Nice option if you’re a WordPress Podcaster like we are!

Doug Mitchell of create WOW media interviews another Doug Mitchell

I’m fascinated with findability as many of you know. Well…for the last few years, I’ve noticed the “Other Doug Mitchell’s” out there with top findability results on Google. One such Doug was recently a victim of cuts at NPR where he’s been for a very long time.
So, when I read via a google alert that the other Doug had been furloughed…I immediately used LinkedIn to get introduced. The rest as they say, is history. So over a recorded skype call, I spent quite some time with Mr. Mitchell.
It turns out that we Doug’s like to do some of the same stuff. Must be in the gene pool somewhere.
The other Doug is a courageous leader who continues to educate today’s youth in what it means to be responsible in journalism and new media skills. Take a listen to Doug Mitchell chatting with Doug Mitchell. No Google this is not a ploy to get my name higher in your rankings.
What’s your “I google it” ratio?
January 26, 2009 by Doug Mitchell · Leave a Comment
I’m at 99% over the last 6 months in my ad hoc sampling when I ask any sized group, “Where’s the first place you go to find information about a person, product, or service?”. The answer, “I google it.” But I did get a new twist on this answer recently.
“My grandpa asks me to Google it and get back to him.” Nice. Google by proxy! Isn’t that a syndrome?
Are you still advertising in the newspaper?

I was chatting with a friend today. He put a nice sized ad in the only paper in town here in the Des Moines metro area, the Des Moines Register. One person called because of it. Did it reach more people? Likely. Will he ever know or do it again? Not likely.
No measurement. No results. No future.

Why Social Media Is Worth Small Business Owners’ Time – BusinessWeek
Author Steve McKee touches on something I talk about frequently in my blogging and findability class and with clients: You must take methodical-strategic-plan when deciding that online/social media tools are going to be a part of your marketing plan. (and they should be).

I just did a guest post on my friend Kelly Moore’s PR/Marketing blog called, “This Ain’t No Spin Class”. Kelly is the PR super whiz who’s part of our high powered mega team. (It’s kind of like when the super heros all join up to make the mega-mega super hero that can defeat even the most demonic devil spawn.)
Well, I’m honored to contribute and I believe you’ll get something out of the brief piece…especially if you’re wondering where to spend your marketing bucks in 2009.

Client launch: Fredsolomon.net

The create WOW team is proud to release www.fredsolomon.net. This site is a wonderful example of what you can do with a membership site. We’ve leveraged video heavily in this Interactive Learning Environment. Fred had a wonderful 3 hour workshop that he puts on video taped for us.
The next step was to release the video editing wizard Paul Gratton on the project to chop up that 3 hour seminar into 30 manageable chunks for use online. We’ve also taken some recorded audio calls done in our podcast recording studio and created some training calls for Fred’s online subscribers.
Additionally, we’ve integrated video chat into the site in protected page so Fred can connect daily with his clients and partners around the USA.
You’ll probably also notice the “walk on” video that we’ve done here. Walk on videos pack quite a punch. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty intrigued when I see an owner walk onto a screen and deliver a great marketing message to me. We’re very pleased with the results on this video. Fred flew into Des Moines for a day (quite a change from Newport Beach, CA huh?) to shoot this piece. If you live in Des Moines of course…no flight necessary.
Fred Solomon is taking his incredible message, products, and talents online by leveraging the create WOW media membership software platform. Our platform is getting more refined every day and our deployment times are coming way down too.
Please take a look at www.FredSolomon.net and let us know what you think. You may also want to sign up for Fred’s Free 15 day trial as well. Now the blogging and marketing of the site will really pick up speed. I can’t wait to share the results with you down the road.
